Megan Stapleton
Culture Map calls soprano Megan Stapleton “an artist of clarity, power, and much expressivity... with a studied intensity.” Native to Texas, Megan has performed extensively in various children’s programs with Houston Grand Opera Co., including Opera To Go!, Storybook Opera, and First Songs. Other credits include performances with Ars Lyrica, Lumedia Musicworks, Kingwood Pops, Galveston Symphony Orchestra, Mercury - The Orchestra Redefined, Ensemble Correnti, Houston’s Bach Society, Houston’s Gilbert and Sullivan Society, Boston Early Music Festival, Boston Opera Collaborative and Boston Metro Opera.
Also a lover of jazz, Megan has performed regularly with The Paul English Jazz Trio, with whom her specialty is to revive beautiful, yet forgotten, tunes of the early twentieth century, for which the term “jazz” might be applied loosely. Megan is a founding member of Houston Baroque, with whom she released the album, “My Soul Sees and Hears,” in 2016. A champion of new music, Megan has premiered works by current composers including Gregory Spears, Mary Carol Warwick, Thomas Oboe Lee, and B.P. Herrington.
She holds degrees with honors from New England Conservatory and Sam Houston State University.
Currently, Megan is a first year doctoral student at University of North Texas, where she studies with Dr. Stephen Austin. www.meganstapleton.com
